Not sure where this post should be posted on here, but I’m looking for information about the aircraft (westland whirlwind) that took part in the charity event organised by RAF Finningley where it was pushed around Doncaster town centre to raise money for the childrens hospital.
Does anyone know which whirlwind it was or it’s registration number?

My Dad was of the RAF guys pushing the helicopter around.
Unfortunately he doesn’t remember the registration of the aircraft, but does remember that it was the Whirlwind and that it wore the RAF SAR colours.
Since this post I have learnt that if it was the Whirlwind that was stored at RAF Finningley it could one of two
XJ729 or XP404
I found a post on these boards relating to XJ729 and that it is in Northern Ireland under a new registration of G-BVGE being looked after and still wearing the RAF SAS colours
If it was XP404 then sadly it looks like she is at Weston-super-mare in a bad way. http://www.ukserials.com/images/ukimages/xp404.jpg

It is very probable it was the same Whirlwind they used to hang from a hangar roof truss and winch people up and down on during the Airshows.
Have you tried contacting the Yorkshire helicopter Preservation Group at Aeroventure via 01302 761616? – they may be able to help.
Failing that, I seem to remember the helicopter being listed in W&R 8th- 10th editions when RAF Finningley was still operational.
Sorry its all I can offer at the mo’
