only a couple of mile from what’s left of RAF Hednesford as i type this, you would never guess it was an RAF camp

Just checked my pictures and Mark is, of course, correct. The top image is indeed EP120, the exhaust stacks match perfectly to other images I have of her around this time.

The other one is not AR614, this was never at Hednesford, it is BM597 as stated.

I knew it was a mistake to go from memory…

Sorry for any thread creep but would anyone have a confirmed serial for the Martinet at Hednesford in 1952?

Regards,

Tim

Mark I’m pretty sure of the second one, all the shots of 597 at Hednesford show it with the three exhaust stacks per side.

Top one is EP120 from memory with the lower one BM597, with the three port exhausts, but I am not adjacent to my files. I will confirm.

Sorry, but I can’t comment on the Spitfires!
That foto seems to be about the time I was there. Some of the guys are ‘orribly like my lot – or did we all look like that? Berets were clearly fairly new! Those on the heads of the airmen had, clearly, not been through the hot/cold water treatment – as had the Cpl DI’s beret! On the trousers of the same Cpl you can see where his chains made his trousers “fall” over his gaiters. Some of those DI’s clanked like mediaeval knights!!
Who can tell me when gaiters went out at Square Bashing, and puttees came in? I can’t remember gaiters at Hednesford! Or am I confusing it with the time when I joined the Tac Comms Wing (when we definitely had puttees).
Slightly “off-topic” for this Forum. But if the Mods will bear with us in the interim, our ‘normal’ home should be restored fairly soon. Tks for putting up with us!!

Pretty sure they are AR614 and BM597, as they were both there around this time.
I have piccies and details in my notes at home and so am going from memory on this one, which is always dangerous I know.
