As far as I know, no archive of The Aeroplane is available on line, therefor I´m hoping someone on here might have access to the issues published in the Autumn of 1920.
What I´m after is a letter that might have been published in The Aeroplane describing conditions for flight in Iceland. The only thing I´ve got to go on at the moment is a small entry in Capt. Frank Fredrickson´s diary for the 14th of August saying he wrote a long letter to Mr. Grey editor of The Aeroplane. Capt. Fredrickson was a pilot in Iceland during the summer of 1920.
Like I said before, I don´t even know if this letter was ever published, but I would be very grateful if someone could look it up.
Thanks,
Sigurjon

Scan has been emailed Sigurjon;
I have the great reward of imagining your smile, upon receiving it. It has also been wonderful to see how many folks on this forum responded to help you in your quest. 🙂

Good news all round.
It certainly is. I never thought this request would turn up an article in The Aeroplane, as I was not sure the letter had even been published.
Sigurjon, obliged! Put to good use immediately!
That is really great! :D:D Now I´ll have to see if I can get the English version to work on my status!

Don,
I really appreciate your help on this matter, even if your lead turned out to be a dead end. I also really like your babelfish translation of the term “Half wit”, it really made me chuckle :D:D For your future reference, the correct translation is “hálfviti” :diablo::D:D Feel free to use it when ever you are addressing me! 😉
James,
Thank you for the offer of assistance that has now been rendered unnecessary, much to your relieve, by barnstormer´s superb find.
Barnstormer,
What a superb find! Thank you for taking the time. You have a PM inbound!

Great! Saves me a task, too. 😀
‘Fair use’ indeed, and I’d suspect that the copyright has expired, being 90 years.

Success!:D
November 3, 1920 issue.
Here is a low res scan of the image provided, and there is a rather lengthy text report which takes up a good portion of the page. (300dpi scan of the page is 2.4Mb size..) I have also reduced that page scan to 100dpi for computer screen reading, and that size file is only 547Kb. (an excellent size for email attachments) but too large to post here..Send me your email address and I shall forward the two scans to you in whichever size you prefer..(It is my understanding that the posting of this scan is allowable under copyright law provision for “fair use,” for non-commercial, educational and research use.)

The RAAF Museum archive has The Aeroplane back issues, including I think 1920, and I’ll be in on Thursday. If I’m not busy with what I’m there for (it really varies) I’ll have a look, but I don’t know I’ll have time for a long browse; Barnstormer may be able to do a more careful job. (And I owe you an e-mail Mr G!)

Many thanks, Don. Sadly living in the wilds of western France, sometimes it’s quicker to fly to the UK and go to the RAeS library, in London, than to drive to Paris! However I’ll try the hyperlinks when I get home later this week.

It is a source of huge regret to me that, unlike Flight, the Aeroplane is not available as an online resource. I am immensely envious of those who have, within reasonable access, libraries that carry either a full or significantly complete run of this wonderful periodical. Much grinding of teeth takes place, chez moi, when my researches lead me to a reference to the Aeroplane that looks both interesting and informative but is, for me, out of reach. Does anyone know who holds the copyright to those issues which are still in copyright and whether anyone is contemplating the mammoth task of scanning and making available online those issues which are not?

Barnstormer,
Thank you very much for taking the time to look this up! The aircraft was an Avro 504 and it was a civil operation.
Maybe the letter (if it was published at all!) was a bit later than end of October, as postal delivery to foreign countries was very elementary at the time.
Thanks again for taking the time.
regards,
Sigurjon

Just skimmed through August 18-Oct 20 issues. Lots of coverage of foreign (non-British) flights, but I do not see anything for Iceland or Capt. Fredrickson, so far…However was a nice re-visit to these old issues with the surprise that there was still so much in-depth coverage of planes of The Great War, especially many WWI German aircraft. If you come across any futher details which might aid the search, (such as type of aircraft involved? Might it be under military or civil aviation news?), I’ll be glad to search again..

Thank you for your offer to help out Don.
If no-one else has access, I´ll take you up on your offer.
