RAF Exhibition Flight

Can someone please confirm or not if the RAF Exhibition Flight still exists and displays at various venues throughout the year a pair of static Spitfires?

Best Wishes

Has a definite decision been made regarding the 2nd a/c? Has anyone got a picture of it in its current dismantled state?

A definite decision was made some years back but it is not in the public domain.

A full pictorial coverage will be in Vol II of Spitfire Survivors next year.

Well, one low back TE311 and one high back TB382, both Mk XVIs.

They will both fly again in the course of time.

As one airframe or separately?:dev2::)

TB382’s history deserves to see it flying again.

How soon till Vol 1 arrives in glorious tecnicolour Mark? (I have had the delayed email)

My understanding is that the notice of availability should be emailed to all interested parties on or about 1 December…..2010.

We are in the hands of the printer/distributor.

Before going to Abingdon the Exhibition flight was at 71MU, RAF Bicester. I can remember going out with various exhibits (Spitfire, Javelin cockpit, Vulcan cockpit, Bloodhound and a few others) to such sites as the School Girls & Boys Exhibition (Olympia) in the early ’60’s. It was always a good number, although I seem to remember that some of the ‘digs’ you were put up in could be a bit ‘iffy’. Great days!:D

They were administered for a while by SERCO as I understand it.

Vol. II mid next year.

If I recall correctly the Exhibition Flight was based at RAF Abingdon and had 2 low-back LF16’s which went to the BBMF for spares recovery, one of which, TE311, is currently well on the way to full restoration and has been the subject of regular updates on this forum from ‘Fluffy’ and other BBMF personnel. Try searching the forum for TE311.

Edit: Beat me to it while still typing!

The Spitfires are now with BBMF. One was dismantled for spares recovery, and the other is nearing the end of a restoration.

IIRC it was partially privatised  – a little bit of background detail is contained in this news item.

Not sure about any Spitfires! 🙂
