The town of Forres in Moray now has four aviation related memorials around the town. Forres if you are not aware is located just a few miles from RAF Kinloss. During the last month two new memorials have been finished.
The 19 OTU Whitley N1440 brass plaque has been present since 1989, No 19 OTU flew Whitley’s from the Kinloss Satelite Airfield of RAF Forres (or Balnageith) at the west end of the town.
Opposite the old Balnageith airfield site on the A96 is a Cairn, very recently it has now been joined by a replica Whitley complete with 19 OTU codes.

Next to the Towns War Memorial also recently been completed is this memorial to honour Crew 3 of No 120 Sqn who were lost when Nimrod MR2 XV230 exploded over Afghanistan in September 2006

Finally there has long been a Nimrod displayed in a memorial garden as a link to Kinloss

Some lovely photographs there of some superb memorials. Especially like the Whitley one as it was the first aircraft that my dad flew in while in the ATC hoping to become a Navigator on Lancasters. He also flew on Wellingtons from Brize Norton later in the course.

Has the Whitley been there long? I only noticed it there a few days ago!
