Beaufighter Mystery

Here’s a puzzle for all Beau addicts:
On page 470 of The Aeroplane dated October 26 1945, you will find a picture of Beaufighter RD758, a late Mk.X. The word ‘SNAKE’ is painted after the serial number on the starboard side.
Does anyone know why?

this was the code word which indicated that the aircraft should not be diverted from its intended destination which was SEAC.
