Crashed P38 Lightning, Doorn, Holland 1944

Hello,

Does anyone know some crash info about a crash of a Lightning airplane in the area of the dutch village “Doorn” in Holland. Near to Utrecht.

I do not think it was lightning strike….because the picture description is:”Wald brand durch abgesch. lightning”. Than means: “Forest Fire by shot Lightning”

Then again, it may be just a poor translation -> forest fire due to lightning strike?

Yes, that is also possible:)

There was one which came down a few km away from the centre of Doorn in the Krakelingenweg in Zeist on 8 March 1944. 42-67719 of the 20th FG.

Thanks for the info so far.

I have an old photo taken in “Doorn”
The photo shows a small forest-fire.
Some german soldiers are standing and look to the fire.
The discription is: “Crashed Lightning”
Maybe some other airplaine is crashed in the area of Doorn?

I think if it was realy a Lightning, you all should have know that.
So i think the info on the photo is not right….

You’ll probably have to download the loss registers for the various years from the site below, search through them.

http://www.defensie.nl/nimh/collecties/documentatie

There may be other variations out there, the one I have for 1944 is:

1944 sec_tcm5-7285.pdf

If you post that into your browser, it will likely come up.

You’ll probably need Google Earth or a similar map program running to check locations. Don’t forget to include F-5s.
