BoB Film Props

The Battle of Britain film is a never ending source of discussion here, photos, books, locations, posters, models are frequent topics.

Does anyone have other props (the film kind, not just the aeroplane kind) they’d like to share?
Is there anything else with film provenance still out there….uniforms, vehicles, etc?

I’m not looking to buy, just curious.

, I have just bought (and sold on!) most of a Bedford QL truck that evidently appears in the film. Anyone know where?? However, since the QL was built from 1941 it was as out of place !

Victim of a direct hit at DX.

Concrete “bombs” were used by the Luftwaffe as practice bombs with a glass smoke phial in a slot in the side of the bomb. I came across dozens of them in northern France quite recently. All of them 250kg.

As to other BofB film props, I have just bought (and sold on!) most of a Bedford QL truck that evidently appears in the film. Anyone know where?? However, since the QL was built from 1941 it was as out of place as the door bell and garage door!

I seem to remember a few years ago seeing a concrete 250kg german bomb at South Yorks Aircraft Museum / Aeroventure which may have been one of those used for a bomb dropping sequence.

When I get chance to go I’ll have a look if its still about.

Hi Folks,

Well you can’t see all of them, because World Backgrounds have over 50 hours of footage from the film. However you can see a good selection of the different kinds of footage available. As I recall about 4 hours worth if all the links work.

Well worth a look if you have the time. It does rather vary in quality though, the digitizing not the footage.

All the best,

Steve

Its interesting to see the actual film rushes that were shot but not used in the film appear from time to time in other productions. First Light, Fighting The Blue, Dark Blue World amongst others have used sequences that were filmed but never incorporated into the 1968 production. The Dark Blue World shots have actually been enhanced with some animated cartridge cases flying about. I wonder who actually owns these unused sequences? They’re certainly making more money now then they did lying on the cutting room floor !

All these clips from the B of B film are owned by a firm called “World Backgrounds” and if you visit their website you can play them on a small screen on line free of charge.

Me too!

That scene grates every time I watch it. So ’60s. How hard would it have been to find a correct 1940s bungalow? You still see them even now occasionally.

The scene ranks up there with Susannah York’s hair style and make up on the grating scale.

The first time I watched the film was on the large screen at the Dominion in London just after it came out. That was the place where they did ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘Cinerama’. I still have the souvenir programme somewhere. The last time was when my son bought a new large screen TV last year. That film just needs a large screen.

I have a few from the BoB film….about 10 x German military vehicles number plates, a few UK ones, a spit rep exhaust stub, a CASA built He111 trailing aerial stick thingy (!), incendary bomb reps for the film….etc. Got a few bits from Rocketeer film too!

I was offered a piece of Buchon underwing skin last week – which still had the paint/balkan kreuz on it from when it was painted for the film.

So definitely pieces out there.
