Classic Flight Night Run at Airbase, Coventry Sat 11 Dec

I’ve been asked to share this with you:

Classic Flight Night Run Event at AIRBASE, Coventry

Back by popular demand – and offering one final chance to see the Classic Flight fleet in action before the end of the season – the now annual Night Run will be taking place at AIRBASE, Coventry on Saturday December 11.

This ticket-only event is aimed at photographers as well as enthusiasts and places are limited to avoid ‘jostling’ and help get those slow shutter speed photographs.

Although this year’s programme is yet to be confirmed the Classic Flight team is hoping the following aeroplanes will be run on the night:

Douglas DC-6
de Havilland Devon
Percival Prentice
Percival Proctor V
Beagle Auster T.7
de Havilland Venom
Hunting Percival Jet Provost T.3A
Gloster Meteor NF.11
… and the visiting Howard 500

It is hoped that some of the aeroplanes will also be taxied and a few ‘surprises’ are also being tentatively planned.

Tickets cost £25 each and include admission to the event as well as hot soup and a roll. To reserve your ticket please send a cheque (payable to Classic Flight) to: Classic Flight, AIRBASE, Dakota House, Coventry Airport, Coventry, Warks, CV8 3AZ.

Updates will also be posted on http://www.classicflight.com when the final programme is confirmed.

It was a great night. Hats off to Steve and the crew, and indeed Darren for helping to arrange things with a photographic ‘eye’. 🙂

I have been involved in helping as part of the organising team to develop and choreograph these events at CVT by contributing a photographer’s input since their inception. The event planning, however, involves many dedicated people and it’s welcomed that this is recognised and I’m sure the team who arranged this year’s will be delighted with your feedback.

They will be in the next issue 🙂

Darren, you’ll have to let me know which events you’re not going to next year, so I can get a look in! :p

Roger, I’ve put a few shots here:

Preparations for Saturday are complete and the weather looks like it will be good – the Howard 500 looked especially tasty out on the apron in the moonlight as I left tonight – should be more spectacular running up tomorrow.

The list of aircraft to run now comprises:
DC-6, DC-3, Heron, Howard 500, Proctor, Jet Provost T3, Chipmunk, Venom.
Gates open 14.00 finish is 19.00.

Following the Airport ‘Fly-in’ a few weeks ago there was a CF GST (Ground Support Team) chat about difficulties of identification of staff/volunteers – there were a LOT of people at that event wearing hi-viz jackets. An increasing number of visitors to events are wearing these too.

The Night Run coincides with the GST Christmas dinner (later in the evening) so I suggested GST members (except for Father Christmas if he’s able to take time out of his busy schedule) wear dinner jacket, white shirt and bow tie 😀

Well, subject to weather conditions, that’s how I’ll be dressed. Probably have to have hi-vis on over it though 😀

Nice. Are you going? I’m sure we’ve discussed, but my memory “isn’t what it used to be”.

Last few times they’re run up each aircraft on its own which are all along the apron, some may taxi and move about and they may tow them into a better position before starting them up.

Looking forward to it – got the undies warming on the radiator as we speak.;)

Hopefully the snow eases off ‘fore long, as nice as it’d be to get some festive shots..!

I’ve never been before, what’s the format like? Do you run up one aircraft at a time, then tow it back into the hangar, or will there be multiple aircraft lined up on the apron?

A quick update FYI:

Plans are now well advanced for the Classic Flight Night Run event at AIRBASE, Coventry on Saturday December 11.

Subject to serviceability we are planning to run the DC-6, ex-BBMF Devon, Chipmunk, Jet Provost T.3, Venom, the newly restored Proctor and hopefully a DC-3 Dakota. It is also our intention to run the awesome Howard 500 – perhaps providing the last chance to see this mighty aeroplane in public before it heads off to a new home in the USA in the spring.

Tickets cost £25 and include warming refreshments during the interval. Tickets are still available at http://www.classicflight.com/EventsCalendar and we may be able to admit people ‘on the door’ if availability permits (please phone 02476 882616 on the day to confirm). Those of you who have already booked reserved a place should receive your tickets in the post early next week.

AIRBASE will be open from 14.00 on the day so you can tour the hangar before the event starts. The engine runs begin at 16.00 and will finish at 19.00.

Fingers crossed for fine (and warm!) weather.

Here’s a shot from last year’s event to whet the appetite – actually a video grab “still” but it gives an impression of the atmosphere:

We’ll be there!
Missed last years event for some unknown reason, but not this time.
Think it’ll be time to renew the Club membership as well?

See you there Tim,

Awesome stuff. I’m definitely attending! The ones I’ve been to in the past have always been superb, if cold!
