Do215 Losses and Plates

Hi, again! Would like to know how many Dornier Do215’s (not Do17 or Do217) fell on England?

Also, as a collector of data and identification plates from Luftwaffe airplanes, has anyone ever seen a plate marked specifically with 8-215 (8-17 and 8-217 plates are common, and I suspect that 8-17 plates may have also been used on the Do215 due to component/assembly commonality between the two types)?

If there are any 8-215 marked plates out there, pics and/or confirmation would be most appreciated.

Thank you, Steve

Hi Andy,

Appreciate that you enquire of them. A plate marked 8-215 has been (to me) a sort of “holy grail”. That assumes that plates peculiar to the type existed, rather than being mostly, if not all, stamped 8-17 due to the evolution of the two models.

I look forward to, hopefully, hearing more via your contacts.

Thanks again,
Steve

P.S.
You are right, that splendid group of plates you offered, just about covered the entire waterfront of types, but none from the Do215. The lot made me and a number of other collectors quite happy!

Steve

I am fairly certain that one was recovered from the Dornier 215 shot down at Collier Street, Kent, and might be in the collection of either Mark Kirby or Steve Vizard. I will ask.

It must have been the only German type not represented in the large number of data plates you bought from me some while ago! However, since they seemed mostly late-war examples and mostly from Europe, the Med and North Africa thats probably not surprising I suppose.

Glad to see you are still collecting.

Andy
