Hi All;
Just a very quick and straight forward enquiry. Do any fellow forumites have any photographs taken at the 1983 Great Warbirds Air Display that they would be kind enough to share? This could be the participating aircraft, visiting aircraft, or even the events of the day, airfield views or general shots of the day. This is two fold really. One, to aid in an on-going modelling project, and two, purely for nostalgia’s sake!
Many thanks in advance..
Regards;
Steve

Hi Steve,
Took me all my time to work out how to post these images (although I’ve done it before), not completely computer literate, although I try my best. Can’t understand why you’re only getting tiny pics, whenever I save anything (from the largest view) they re-open in the same size. If you pm me your email address, I’ll send them direct.

Hi Mark
Hi Mark;
Many thanks for the extra photo’s. Exactly the sort of thing I was looking for!
They are all good as far as I’m concerned. I really enjoyed looking at them.
Could I be a real pain please? I’ve saved them to my PC, but when I re-open them, the photo’s are really tiny. Would it be possible that I could get bigger images?
These are really helpful to my modelling project which is well underway. Current focus is a 1/32 Bearcat as seen in your photo. Had some great fun making the custom decals for this, which included a large amount of very small yellow teddys for the rest of the builds!! Next in line: 1/32 Spitfire Mk XIV G-FIRE and Tiger Moth G-AYDI…then Sally B/Ginger Rogers in 1/72.
Regards;
Steve
PS: These photo’s have been helpful already! I’ve just noticed that Stephen Grey’s Bearcat lacks the cannon bulges on the top of the wing!! Back to the work bench for a bit of scraping!!

Last ones for now:

Obviusly, some are better than the others – I think that’s why some were tucked in rather than in the album proper, however, a few more:

I assumed that the dates 17th and 18th were Saturday and Sunday, but according to the Sally B website they were Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday (which rings a bell), they also mention that the weather was OK. Anyway, a few others I found tucked away in the album that I found (other album still to be found):

Glad you like them. There are another 30 or so in another album, I’ll have to try and dig those out to scan.
I remember it being wet, but can’t remember how wet it was but as I (probably, was a long time ago) travelled from the Midlands on the Saturday afternoon to bivouac (overhanging trees and a large polythene sheet) overnight and then do something similar on the way back (on a 250 Superdream), I don’t recall being overly damp.

Hi Mark;
Fantastic photo’s..thanks ever so much for sharing!
Ah! You went on the 18th also? It certainly did rain didn’t it?
There’s a couple of aircraft there that I’d forgotten were there…the G.46 for one, and the Hughes. Seem to remember that German registered Harvard doing quite a spirited display.
Thanks again!

Hi CADman;
Great photo of G-SUES there. I had a soft spot for this bird!
Regarding the great photos you posted earlier…I don’t supose there’s any chance of some bigger files, as they’re really small when I open them and I can’t see the detail! Sorry to be a pain!

Hi CADman;
Thanks ever so much. Great images and thanks for taking the time to post.
I did have a very few photos that I took on an old 110..but all of these were lost over time. The only surviving photo I have is of Piston Provost G-AWPH.
Beermat;
I have to agree, I do feel a bit old when I realise how long ago it was. I went on the Sunday when it poured with rain…but the show still went on. Remember watching the parade of “We’ll Meet Again” stars along with Gary Numan. I was quite impressed that Gary sponsored the show, so I showed my support by watching him perform his new single on “Crackerjack” the Friday before the show (I bought the single too!) I also remember seeing the news report on Friday about “Pranger” Lipton bringing the replica Fw-190 in without the trolleys extended!
I was 13 at the time!

eek! I feel old. It was my first warbird show too! Looks like Malling 83 has a lot to answer for. Now, I need to find a scanner – mine broke.

West Malling. Oh happy days, probably my first full warbird show, remember we travelled by coach great fun, got totally soaked. Apoloigies for the quality a combination of badly stored slides and average equipment.

Hi Mark12;
That’s exactly the sort of thing I’m looking for! I appreciate you taking the time to post the images. It looks as though you went on the Saturday when it wasn’t persisting down with rain! Great day though, and my first warbird show. A defining moment in my youth!
Mark Hazard..
Thanks for the reply. Any photographs relating to this particular show, no matter how insignificant, would be greatly appreciated.

All participating aircraft carried the ‘Teddy Bear’ insignia in memory of Ted White.
