Recent excavation of Wellington Mk1 L4290 in Dorset. Crashed 21st July 1939 with the loss of PO I V Barton, PO Y P Wilson and AC J A Lowery. This was the first accidents involving a Wellington where anything is likely to remain. Unusually for a dig, an old gentleman walked over and presented three labels he had picked up whilst walking his dog and a contemporary newspaper report which described the loss in very great detail. Small remains of the Vickers nose turret were also recovered.

The engine and prop are earmarked for Hendon or Brooklands, it being quite a significant aircraft. It wasn’t my dig but someone here might be able to answer your question.

Tantalising pictures! I don’t suppose any of those cylinders or pistons are ‘surplus to requirements’ are they? :diablo:
