Moths gather in Hampshire field for Centenary Celebrations

Today (Sept 10th) saw the gathering of various Moths at Seven Barrows, in the rolling Hampshire countryside near Kingsclere Castle.
A memorial stone can be found here, to mark the first flights of the first aeroplane built by Geoffrey de Havilland.

The private event, organised by the Moth Club attracted over 30 aeroplanes, the largest, and most modern being the DHC2 Beaver of the Army Air Corps Historic Flight. The aircraft operated out of the large stubble field adjacent to the A34, and poor visiblity early in the day gave way to good flying conditions.

I think you’ll find that the DHC 1 was a much smaller mammal than a Beaver it was more Chipmunk shaped. 😉

I see Mr Bean’s aeroplane (pic030) wasn’t quite ready. The two R/C “9’s” are rather nice.
