I have recently acquired an airmail envelope apparently written by Bob Stanford Tuck and sent from Changi, Singapore.
Let me say straight away it was a speculative purchase and I hope to sell it on at a profit.
Regrettably the letter is absent and the stamp has been removed from the envelope – taking with it the date!!! I have read that Tuck was in Singapore for a while between being Station Commander at RAF Coltishall and retiring from the RAF.
It’s addressed to Miss L. Enron(???), 431, Deneham(?) Road, Norwich, Norfolk, England. On the rear is “From: W/Cdr R. Stanford Tuck, Temple Hill Mess, R.A.F. Changi Singapore” – all handwritten in blue ink.
I wonder who Miss Enron (if that’s a correct interpretation) was – does anyone know Tuck’s wife’s maiden name and when they married?
Roger Smith.
