Sywell Airshow and My Kettenkrad

I am one of the trustees at the Sywell Aviation Museum which is about 2 mins drive from my home in Moulton England.

Last weekend we had our 3rd Bi-Annual airshow on the airfield

Now the weather over here has been terrible for the last few weeks, torrential rain and very high winds – a typical english summer really.

anyway being so close to home and being part of the museum, i thought it only right to exhibit my kettenkrad for the first time.

I had shown pictures to people, told them all about it but now it was time to bring the kettenkrad “home” for the show.

Thursday it rained very heavily but on the Friday i collected a pick up truck and a trailer and set off to get the kk. Sun was shining which was a good sign.

arrived at bruntingthorpe – lined up the kk, set up 3 ramps selected 1st gear, low ratio and drove it straight onto the trailer.

1 ratchet strap and a piece of wood through the spokes of a road-wheel and off we set…….It didn’t move, no wallowing on the trailer nothing.

arrived at Sywell about midday – same in reverse and i had arrived.

the rest of the day was spent preparing for the show but of course people heard about the strange vehicle and wanted to see it so you do what you have to and do a bit of showboating.

afterwards during putting it away it overheated – it seemed that there was no water in it!!!???

so filled her up, checked for leaks and tucked her up for the night.

Saturday – no leaks, everything fine. Manned a gate but parked up the kk so people could see it. Every so often i would be asked to give the odd ride.

Sunday – superb sunshine – the rest of the country was under thick rain clouds but not at Sywell.
