Reports on Pprune of a possible Spitfire down in Norway with fatal consequences. Terribly tragic if that proves to be the case, especially given what was happening 70 years ago.

I’m closing this thread; its too early to worry about what might happen to the aeroplane; there are still people hurting for the loss of a very skilled and well loved pilot.
As I was one of the team that built the aircraft, I feel I can make that judgement.

I’ve just read this for the first time now. Sorry to hear this sad news RIP and condolences to the family.

The damage to the aircraft looks (according to my interpretation of the pics) to not be of serious nature, but it obviously needs a full check up and plenty of new parts.

This is very sad….my condolences go out to his family, and all those affected. 🙁 Really sad loss to the aviation community, both for the pilot, and the aircraft. Flying from age 17 to 68…thats a loooong flying career, in which time it seems he became a bit of a celebrity in Scandinavia, and with good reason. 31,400 flying hours, on a lot of different types…RIP
Do we know yet how extensive SM845’s damage is? As in, how long it’d take to re-build, if thats the plan?
