2nd Annual Vintage Aircraft fly in Great Oakley, Essex

A quick reminder that the second annual Great Oakley vintage aircraft fly in takes place on Sunday 28th August. For those who have not visited this lovely airfield, think pre war style,no fences blocking your views, unrestricted walk around the visiting aircraft parking, accompanied hangar tours all in a superb rural location with great on site facilities. We would ask please if you are planning to visit to notify Tim Spurge the airfield owner by phone 01235 880045 or email tim.spurge@btconnect.com so that catering numbers can be allowed for. Our full spit roast Lamb has to be seen and tried! The Proctor restoration shop will be open at set times for visitors to inspect progress, in addition our recently acquired Mk 4 will be wheeled outside to the flight line. Airborne visitors invited will include Miles, Percival, D.H and Auster variants and many many more.
The best way to find the airfield by car, regardless of your starting point, is to take the A12 to COLCHESTER then head towards HARWICH on the A120. Continue on the A120 all the way to WIX where you would ignore the FIRST right turn to WIX (to avoid driving through the village) and taking the SECOND right turn into HARWICH Road. A short way in, take the first left into OAKLEY Road and continue to the junction of WIX Road bearing left onto SCHOOL Road. Drive a short distance until you see the sign for Great Oakley Airfield. All airborne arrivals please PPR in advance and tune to frequency 123.2. We anticipate a lot of visitors on the day. The Proctor restoration group will be holding a raffle for all vintage arrivals with the lucky winner receiving cash for the full cost of a tank(s) of fuel, DC’3’s excluded. Happy to answer anyone’s questions. Look forward to seeing you there.
