Classics At The Other Airshow

Yes, there was another show on this weekend with what I would consider a far more interesting line-up of old aircraft.
The RNAS Yeovilton show was held on Saturday 10th, weather was mixed, with cloud in the morning and then scorching hot sun after mid-day, though it was boiling hot throughout.

It didn’t seem that busy this year but there were some good tpes in static, and a really good idea which was excercised this year was the resident FAAM museum displaying some of its aircraft outside. This was really popular and I was pleasantly surprised at how well in particular the Sea Vixen & Sea Venom was taken in by the public, hopefully this will encourage the same thing at future events.

Not really sure what the RNHF are up to at the moment, but the only aircraft they had flying was the Sea Hawk, seems ages since I have seen their Sea Fury and Swordfish flying, but I guess there must be a good reason why they weren’t flying in this 70th year of Yeoviltons existence.

WGAF Phantom, Spanish display team with the old CASA Aviojets, Polish Briza, Dutch F-16s, Aeronavale Rafale (fantastic aircraft up close), RN & RAF Sea Kings, Jetsream, and Harriers all added to the line-up.
That staic layout should serve as an example to ther organisers, with the fences well back providing lots of room around the aircraft for photography.

Highlight of the event for me was seeing the FAAMs very rare (one of two left) Sea Vixen FAW.1, XJ481, on display. It looks fantastic and the earlier lines without the boom extensions, windscreen clearing fairing, and bulged observers hatch just look so pure.
