”German investigators are to examine the reasons for an emergency landing involving a sightseeing Douglas DC-3 at Berlin, which substantially damaged the aircraft.
Seven occupants suffered minor injuries in the incident which closed Berlin Schonefeld Airport for 15 minutes.
The vintage ‘Raisin Bomber’ aircraft – the type used during the historic post-war airlift – was being operated by Air Service Berlin.
It came to rest in an area of shrubland, not far from the construction site of the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport, sustaining severe damage to its right wing and vertical fin.
Details of the circumstances of the event are still sketchy but Schonefeld Airport’s operator, Berliner Flughafen, says the landing immediately followed the DC-3’s departure. The cause of the incident is “unknown”

Was this the Royal Australian Air Force DC-3?
If so I was instrumental in its arrival at Gatow in 1980 and know a little about its history, if anyone is interested
No, rest assured. That one’s still on display at Gatow.

No it’s not a former Australian machine. The machine you refer to I recall has been static since it’s arrival in 1980.

They are in receivership since a few month. At flugzeugforum.de there was talk about the Dak to be taken over by some kind of trust with the goal to repair/restore it back to flying condition (well, as “soon” as they have enough money).
Don’t know the current state of the project, though…

This should clear things up…..
As you already understand from the press, have the Air Service Berlin CFH GmbH and its subsidiary, Air Service Berlin GmbH Terminal C at Amtsgericht Charlottenburg made for bankruptcy. In both cases, the law firm lawyer Torsten Martini Westhelle Leonhardt & Partner for the provisional liquidator appointed. Reason for the insolvency of the accident was the Candy Bomber. A repair to already be able to offer sightseeing flights booked on is economical for our company not able to be represented. Meanwhile, we can therefore your already paid for tickets Candy Bomber Flights not redeem. We regret to inform you that you need to make your calls for opening of insolvency proceedings the insolvency administrator in writing. A refund may be in the moment we do not have the provisional liquidator. After the opening of insolvency proceedings the insolvency administrator will write to you and to register call your claims. If you want to make sure that you will not forget, you already share your claims in writing to the provisional liquidator under www.lwup.eu with the website.

I suppose the Liquidator will attempt to realise it as an Asset, so someone might get a Dak more cheaply than if was on the open market, and perhaps justify the cost of its restoration to flying condition.

I guess this is going to put a dent in D-CXXX/G-AMPZ’s chances of repair.
Such a shame, for the aircraft and the group.

I’d guess it would be easier to purchase another Dak and retire whats left of her to a museum? We will just have to wait and see.

Most of us over here know her as G-AMPZ, even if she isn’t carrying that registration any longer.
I have a bit of a sad feeling over this as she was the aircraft in which I took my first ride in a real warbird. 🙁
DC3’s are built strong. I really hope she can be repaired.
