Watching old wartime gun camera footage there’s always two or three fw190’s getting a wing blown off in flight. So was the 190 prone to loosing a wing under fire?

It’s OK – they missed the data plate.

I do remember seeing a German 30mm cannon test (possibly from an Me262), but it was on the rear fuselage of a Spitfire – similar result!

Think this was also in one of the books – possibly Spitfire: The History.

At the back of my mind there is something lurking….I think there was something on this, and possibly some stills, in one of Alfred Price’s books? But I cannot recall what or where. Someone will know.

Or, in line with David’s suggestion, it could be a desperate attempt to deal with uncertificated mods in compliance with the CAA’s Aircom 2010/08.
