Nice piece in today’s Telegraph about the Dambusters film, which is shortly to be re-released after being digitally restored.

Lets see em then!
OK – ‘ere ya go…..
Walking along the top of the dam…..

Below the dam – walking round the run-off area….

The only reference I could find of the raid – a poster showing the damage to houses below the dam….

There was another poster showing a photo of the breach – but I must have neglected to photograph it…

airportsed… If you tour the villages downstream of the dam you will find several memorials to the locals killed in the flood (same at the Eder).
We walked round the runoff area below the dam – presumably you mean the village beyond that ???

I read it earlier and agree – a good article. And as Nigger has been restored to where he should, be I’ll go for this over the endlessly promised Jackson remake with Nigger transmuted for PC’s sake.

Coincidentally…..
I was at Mohne dam last Sunday (6 June) – had a nice picnic on the banks of the Mohnesee.
I was surprised by the lack of any commemoration – either to the RAF crews (perhaps understandable) nor to the German military and civilians that died (plus the large numbers of POWs).
There were a couple of billboards with photographs of the history of the dam.
Some of the B&W photos showed the breach and there was an annotated plan of the structures & houses below the dam that were destroyed.
But no memorial that I could see.
I took a few photos – if anyone is interested….

“…of the 19 aircraft that set out for the Ruhr valley, only eight returned…”
Wrong! Come on guys, it was only the most famous bombing raid of the war!

What? A digitally restored Nigger as well….???!!
PS – Maybe this is being put out by Peter Jackson’s company….a cheaper option than a re-make in these Chastised (ooops…chastened) times.:D

Nigger stays “undubbed” as well, quite right too.

The caption to the photograph on the website is wrong, it goes with a different picture, which was printed in the newspaper.
