Beech Restorations Brunters

With all of the jet action and discussions going on about the colour of the Victor the goings on over at the Beech Restorations hangar seemed to have been overlooked.

Lots of stuff to see, Beech 18, Harvard II, T-6, Jeep, Kubelwagen and Kettenkrad

Many people came over to chat to us and we received a lot of positive feedback.

One very annoying thing which did tend to spoil the day was discovering someone in/on my kettenkrad whilst daddy looked on taking pictures……..did he think it is ok just to climb into someone’s Ferrari, exactly the same principle.

Also people just coming up and grabbing the pieces on display without asking………..gggrrr

Anyway apart from that it was a very good day………bit windy though

Enjoyed my visit, Know what you mean re visitors messing with exhibits, we take our scale models of aircraft and afvs to various shows and have kids picking up models trying to spin props etc.
We have resorted to useing barriers.
Looking forward to seeing progress on your projects next visit.

Great stuff Philip! Have you driven the Ket without the front wheel on, if yes how does that compare to driving it normally? Do people make repro panels and parts for them? What I’m wondering is in the future will it be possible to make a complete repro Ket or that just not going to be like a lot of german vehicles, yes you can build a shell with repro panels but without a donor with engine etc. your not going to be able to go anywhere!

I haven’t done that yet, but i do plan to.

re repro parts…………..all the nuts and bolts are metric so dead easy to get, all the panels, fuel tanks, seats, locker boxes etc come from czech republic

superb people to deal with….very honest

track pads came from poland.

lehar makes complete new hulls for about £6000 but then you would need engine, (opel kadet) gearbox, differential, wheels tracks

so yes it is possible to build one

Excellent stuff, the bit I never understood about them is the motorcycle front wheel and handle bars etc, does it really have much effect on steering a heavy tracked vehicle, and why have it at all, ie not just rely on the tracks?
Be great to see it hitched up to a Me262 replica!

hi

the front wheel only has a small effect on the turning of the vehicle. the handlebars actuate 2 rods which pass through the front hull plate and actuate drum brakes on the differential.

works fine unless the diff oil seals fail and oils gets into the drums.

i have my 262 on order

Just goes to show that people are not being brought up to have the consideration for the property of others the way they were when when were young. If I’d done some of the things I see kids and even adults doing these days I’d have reveived such a back hander that my ears would have been ringing for days.

dead right, values and stuff is what it all boils down to, i would never dream of doing what some of these types get upto.

i would have got a slap as well………….my 4 year old has better manners than some adults

wow very nice on all accounts! I agree the great unwashed public do take some looking after but do reconsider the ropes and barriers thing! It just looks so much better without ropes and barrriers in the way! as you say it needs someone there at all times though and thats a pain.

I have a car restoration shop at Infineon Raceway CA and you should try being here on NASCAR week, I stepped out for a minute and when I came back there were people sitting in cars having there pictures Taken! even one in an E-Type tub up on stands…………..Rednecks………….

as you say, no barriers does help with photo opportunities but it does present other problems…….we must be a little more vigilant i think andd post some big notices about.

people just don’t seem to have respect for effort or other peoples property sometimes.

then on the flip side you do get the odd polite person who does ask and genuinely takes an interest, you don’t so much then, it makes it seem worth it then.

Chears for all that Philip. Considering what you started with what you have now justifies your hard work and expenditure as she looks the dog’s danglies. Your mate looked like he was having fun, got to be a terrific grin factor in turning what you got into something that hairy.
I don’t mind you being vague as I guessed it would be something like that as they have a rarity value that makes the purchase a little bit more than your average family saloon.

Cheers Mike, sometimes you just have to step backwards a bit to see. Being so close to a project sometimes it is easy not to see the overall effect, same with the Beech.

Ben certainly enjoyed it, it is so much fun if somewhat hard on the arms to steer.

i now consider the krad like a pension fund.
