Bentwaters 2010

Bentwaters, Suffolk, June 13

Following on from a smaller and well-received display in 2009, this year the former USAF ‘Cold War’ base stages a larger airshow, but with the emphasis very much on a day for all the family. Raising funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Bentwaters Cold War Museum, FlyPast is proud to support the event . 01394 460655 http://www.bentwatersparks.com

The commentator robbed me of 230hp apparently (so a growing queue of people told me after landing…)

What an enjoyable day ! Very well done to all concerned with the show. I was, for some reason, expecting a small local airshow with a few hundred attending …. How wrong was I ….. having to queue for a few minutes to get in was a giveaway …. there were thousands of people, not crowded though, lots of space around the public area.
With a £10 entry fee, a walk around the static and flying lineups before the display for only £2 and the supurb Air Cadets burgers at only £2.50 I don’t think anyone can complain.
The three hour flying display was smoothly run and flowing very well, the weather did deteriate slightly towards the end but nothing too serious. there was a lot to do for those not into the aircraft, A good display of related vehicles from many eras, a few demos from some of the firefighters was good, kept some younger people spellbound !
A couple of points noted for the future …. very good use of many large vegetable boxes as rubbish bins … Didn’t see any programmes for sale ? was there one ? the PA sounded very well qualified but was difficult to hear at the crowd line !
So all in all an excellent day out (photos in the ‘airshow photos’ thread)
Thank You very much, hope to be there again.

Keith.

Have to say I am looking forward to this one, rumour has it the Air cadets burgers are a close second to Mildenhall of yesteryear!

I prefer ‘beef’ burgers, as Air Cadets can be a bit chewy 😉

Sorry chaps, but you are not getting my point, deliberately or otherwise. Take a look at the booking form – Bentwaters Parks Ltd is not a charity as I understand it – yes they may support the charities, but the admin fee payment goes to them with no detail of charitable donation – just an admin fee. The devil is in the detail, and I like to know to whom I am giving – business or charity.

You’ll still see me with my pre-paid ticket supporting the charitable efforts and looking forward to a good do – just not by air.

I dont think anybody is expecting to land there for free, apart from the performers perhaps.
Its an admin fee – it says so on the form. If it went to charity, however……

If you look at the all the information regarding this wonderfull little air display you will see that one of the charities being supported is “The Anglian Air Ambulance”

So to quote you, “if it went to charity” – It is, So will we see you at Bentwaters now?

I’m looking forward to what looks like a return to a proper, air display, a good mix of aeroplanes and a nice friendly atmosphere.

Mick…..

Thought about flying in – £8 ticket very good value until the £40 admin fee is added. And the 32p for return postage.

The £40 is the landing fee for any aircraft that want to fly-in for the show.

Cheers – Graham

Good article in the mag about the base and the owners of the current airfield and their operations. Sounds an excellent set-up and deserves to succeed. I would like to have been at the show.
