It is not a facility that is particularly valued by the locals, who keep coming up with ideas to restrict it still further by, for example driving roads through it.

Not only does this not bode well for the airport, it doesnt bode well for the museum either.
Bruce

As far as I’m aware the road is going mostly around the North of the airfield and may improve access to the Airport from the South of Norwich. Most locals do value the Airport but as ever there is a vocal minority.

I see no doom and gloom!

Norwich airport is something of an anachronism, being hemmed in by the city on three sides, and with no means of expansion whatsoever. It is not a facility that is particularly valued by the locals, who keep coming up with ideas to restrict it still further by, for example driving roads through it.

Not only does this not bode well for the airport, it doesnt bode well for the museum either. Me, I wish them all the luck in the world, but I cant give them my time, as I dont have any spare!

Now my “surprise” is gloom and doom? 😮 I was asked a question and I answered it honestly. Believe it or not, moderators are allowed opinions which were actually posted as just that! My opinion. I sincerely hope that you are right however. The fact remains that the Museum is still facing a move and the associated problems. Hence my original “surprise” at taking on such a project at this time. I didn’t say that it couldn’t be done, I said that I was “surprised” that they had taken on such a project:confused:

If you really cared about these museums then you would understand my concern and you would show an interest on how they plan to deal with it.
You seem to have your own little “agenda”, so I’ll leave you to it.

For those who are interested in the actual project, the initial plan is to move the Nimrod as close as possible to the Vulcan and then to extend the museum fence around it.

Well said XV255. It is very sad to see the moderator of this forum heaping doom and gloom on an museum which is showing some ambition.

Regional museums deserve support, incredible things have been achieved by Newark, Flixton, East Midland, Coventry, North East andTangmere etc. These types of collections need to be allowed to develop and I was extremely disappointed to see the moderator speculating in such a manner which then led to unrelated posts questioning Norwich Airport.

Lets give the smaller organisations some encouragement.

Another downside for Colt as an airport is the runway direction. 04 would approach over Norwich

I agree that would be a problem, but Coltishall is so much better! Starting from scratch would not be acceptable these days I think. Not in Norfolk anyway. I just think a plan could have been made to fix up one of the two into a competive airport before phasing the other out. One can dream:D

However, we digress….

Unfortunately the locals ain’t airport friendly! Coltishall would have been a better location for the airport IMHO.

The only people that would benefit would be the ones who live round the current airport. Coltishalls road links and catchment area are far worse than the current location.

Needed to be south and or west of Norwich to stand any chance.

Is this a record, speculation that an aircraft will be scapped less than 72 hours after its arrival at a museum!!!!!!!!!!!

I should imagine that the City of Norwich Aviation Museum will have considered development around their museum site long before the Nimrod was even considered.

Perhaps every forum member should leap into their cars, roar off to Norwich and fill their memory cards in the next few days!! No doubt CNAM would welcome the income.

I did say if it could not be moved! Do calm down dear chap. One hopes that the Museum has a plan as the new location is still under discussion as far as I know. Hence my “surprise”. FUNDS boy, think about it!

Just a minor detail of a road being built through the current location!

That will emasculate the airport still further! Has to be one of the countrys most stifled airports in terms of what it cant do….

In a county filled with redundant tarmac, we really should be looking at resiting the airport!

Saw it today from the Cromer Road – its some way from the museum compound at present. I guess the difficulty will be moving it from where it is now to the museum site.

Museums location not too certain, if she can’t be moved later she will have to be scrapped.

Good question !

I know like all the other organisations Norwich will look after her and should be applauded for taking on the challenge.

Well done Norwich

Yea gods not like the MOD to save money. Times gone by they would have re-sprayed them all and then scrapped them, after putting them all through a major first.
