Seems that they are running into problems getting the idea started. I picked this up from a die-cast collectors forum.
Heck of a task to get a Thunderchief in the air, good luck to them I say !

I picked up a 1/72 die-cast model of a “Thud” a while back, it just shouts “noise and power” Its a crying shame that the Duxford example never got to be restored and displayed, its a wonderful looking beast.

The Thud was the best looking jet fighter of its era. In fact I still reckon it is the best looking one ever built to this day!

Well, actor Michael Dorn (formerly owned & flew an F-86 Sabre & a Rockwell Sabreliner) is currently looking at buying & restoring to flight an F-8… he wants to fly it in “Heritage Flight” shows.

Collings have been trying to do this for a long while, and had effectively ‘secured’ the best potential Thud left that could be restored to flight, the last one left at AMARC.
But, as the USAF got wind and put out an immediate order for the motor mounts to be cut thereby rendering the airframe useless for a return to flight 😡
I’d love to see Collings get the congressional authorisation though, as they did with the Phantom and get a Thud in the air 😎
It would be nice if they could attempt the same with a F-8 Crusader as well for the Vietnam ‘flight’… 😎
