I did the school run this moring, and got chatting with a bloke who does a lot of local field walking.
He has a new neighbour who is aviation minded, and they got talking about an amount of molten aluminium found in a field in the Cantley area.
Ah, was the reply, that may be from one of the Mustangs that collided overhead – the other one crashed in a field about three miles away.
So….
Anyone know anything – do we know an identity for the aircraft in question? One of the fields in question isnt that far from the well known Reedham marshes B17.
Over to you!

I thought it was a ‘sweet’ reply, but how many ‘lumps’ might you find? 😀

Thanks Kiteflyer – much appreciated.
I know the approximate location of the two aircraft – which I dont believe have been recovered. FB135 is in the field opposite the barn I am working from. I drive past KH566 most days!
Moggy – ‘Beet’ indeed……

Not everyone is ‘beet’ – I’ve had a ‘root’ about and come up with the answer; the collision between two 64 Sqn Mustangs on 23rd may 1945.
KH566 flown by F/O Lord Calthorpe (baled out safely) crashed at Hassingham and FB135 came down at Southwood. F/Lt John Harthill was killed in this crash.
Lord Calthorpe was killed later that year in another crash near Blythburgh a few miles south on the Suffolk coast
