I found this at a car-boot today, not seen one before presume relating to Fairey cowling fasteners?
Marked ‘Fairey Turnbutton D93529..1944’ with military crows-foot marking. Steel construction 4.5″ long., screw driver blades at either end. The oval hole ideal for opening beer bottles?!!!
Anyone know the actual usage?

Absolutely agree cking, you can see that my dzus key is almost pristine due to lack of use LOL 😀
Whereas my Canberra key issued at the same time had a somewhat harder life LOL
Last used at Brawdy circa 1978 for a visiting B2

That ‘modern’ dzus tool didn’t work very well in 1964 either, bas (or at any time, I suspect) unless it was operated by using it gripped between the jaws of pliers or similar.

Rod,
I think you are right. But my ancient, failing, memory will not recall!
I was in 38 Grp at the time. Every so often we used to get “The Warsaw Pact Circus” visiting most of the 38 Grp Stations. This had a wide variety of surface/surface, surface/air, weapons (including various SAMs) that we might be likely to encounter! I think it was when displaying the bog-standard Kalashnikov that this Rockape Flt Sgt indicated that the Iraelis had their own version! Too long ago!!

Wasn’t that rifle the ‘Galil’?
Also sometimes irreverently known as the ‘Shmalashnikov’ or ‘Balashnikov’ because of the similarity to that other well known weapon.

Slightly off-thread but, nevertheless, on the subject of beer bottle openers.
Many years ago the Iraelis manufactured a rapid-fire infantry weapon (don’t know name). On the demo (which I was not at!) the guy dunked this weapon in a barrel of deisel. The he pee’d on it. Then he kicked it in the sand. Then he fitted a magazine – and it fired all the rounds!! He then said “One of the problems we’ve had is of the troops using the magazine entry to open beer-bottle tops. So we’ve put a beer-bottle opener on the right hand side. And, just in case there are any left-handed infantry soldiers, we’ve put another on the left side!”.
Good forward thinking!!

Here is a more modern Dzus key for the same purpose…
Modern = I was issued it in 1972 😀
Along with the Canberra door key I also still have LOL
I had one of them once. Absolutly useless!!!!!! Best to use a GS screw driver (GS = General Standard)

A Fairey Fastener is similar to a Dzus fastener…so either end of the tool used as ‘screwdriver’ for different sized fastener.
