There is an interesting note on the ‘Lost Bombers’ site:

PoW No.225. Sgt M.J.Joyce (an Irish National) was held in Dulag Luft, where he collaborated with the enemy. ‘Escaped’ to UK 1942.

Yes, I did subsequently find Vliehors, which is apparently the largest beach in Europe, but I got somewhat distracted looking at some photographs of the many tanks used as targets on this former bombing range. 😮

I couldn’t really find Vliehors but Vlieland is an island in the West Frisian Islands. There is (was) a Dutch bombing range on the large beach there; probably where P4324 landed.

That fellow also has a rather startling NJG 1 album for sale.

Photo #3 seems to have a caption on bottom RHS “Friesland 1940”, so fits completely with P4324

I hadn’t really noticed the first time I looked but there is a photograph of a Hampden flying with its wheels down, presumably this is P4324 on its way to Germany!

Apparently it is Hampden B1 P4324 that ran out of fuel on an operation to Merseburg on the night of 26/27 August 1940 and made a landing on sandbanks at Vliehors. As the photographs show the aircraft was captured intact and it was later flown to Germany.

Some very interesting photographs there.
