Chaps
I have a B17 yoke (probably a belly crash landing). The story told me by former owner is that it was from a shot down B-17 lost on December 6, 1944 south of Berlin near a town called Teltow.
I there any way of tieing it to an exact aircraft please? Over to you sleuths!

Hi Rockteer,
Interesting stuff, that yoke does look to be in great condition. I’m actually after a 17 yoke for a display… you dont have one you want to part with by any chance or know of where I could source one? Anyone else have any ideas?:)
Thanks.

quote: “(probably a belly crash landing)” –
only roughly translated from a German source:
“One of the B-17 bomber (AF-Serial 42-39963 โLittle Lulu โ) was hit by an air defense cannon north of Berlin from the ground, still flew toward the south and crashed between 11.00 and 11.15 o’clock on this 5 December 1944 in the Kindelforest.(KU-report 3444). From the crew of nine only the navigator Samuel J. Culbert and the bomb contactor Arthur G. Dealy survived. These then probably came into war captivity. Some rubble parts fell also on Glienicker area, so for example one of the four radial engines.”

Thanx Graham…..does it say if the aircraft was a full in or belly? Cheers Tony

I have a B-17G 42-39963 of the 423BS, 306th BG named Little Lulu that crashed on 5th December 1944 and is recorded on MACR 11038. The aircraft came down 1800 meters south of Schoenfliesz, to the north of Berlin near the Kinden Sea.
According to German records, a number of US airmen were captured near Teltow, but that was all 21 June 1944, when Liberator 42-1099794 crashed there

The date could be the day after (I suppose) if it was a night raid…..it was pencilled on the yoke. The yoke has no other markings that could tie it to a particular aircraft.

First, obvious question; are there any markings/serial numbers on the yoke, anything that could provide a clue?

I been looking through the MACRs… and the date does not match anything.
How confident are you of the alleged date/location?
