I popped down to Balcombe in West Sussex today to see the newly relocated Wings Museum. Its rural location was easily found given its close proximity to the M23.
Firstly I have to say how impressed I was with the museum, given the short time they’ve had to make the move from Redhill Aerodrome. The exhibits are very well presented with mountains of background information on hand. Of particular note was the thought provoking Mittelbau-Dora photographic display, that depicts the terrible atrocities that went with the forced construction of the V2 Vengence weapons.
I was particularly pleased to see the Miles Magister G-AIUA, which I had always known existed but but had never actually seen it before. The Ghosts of the Tundra exhibits are particularly well displayed and the overall condition of the P63 is remarkable. One surprise item was the nose section of the ex Booker A26 Invader which I hadn’t seen for many years.
The following photos will give a flavour of the new museum, but I can thoroughly recommend a visit. I would like to congratulate the Hunt family for taking the brave decision to relocate the museum in such difficult economic times and wish them well for the future.
I will post some more tomorrow.

Excellent presentation of the wrecks, and probably the best way to preserve them as well.
The Invader nose was up here in Norfolk for a long time, sitting outside in all weathers. Nice project for the future, but has a lot of corrosion.

What’s happened to the HP Herald at Redhill – has it moved to this new location too?
