ARC Buchon in New BOB colours

I understand this awesome aircraft is now in her new colours!

Does anyone have any snips to share?

I echo Daz’s sentiments. 😀

Tempted to do a North Weald/Duxford/Old Warden triple header on Saturday, the Buchon going on public display again would be the icing on the cake.

If anyone knows of when she’s likely to be returned to hangar 3, please do let me know. 😉

Thanks for the interest and the positive comments by Darren. I’m sure Septic will agree. The wings are currently being re-attached as the aircraft had to be dismantled to fit into the Spraybake facility at HFL. Personally I think it looks awesome and is a dream come true, but then being the one who researched the paint scheme I would say that! Hopefully it will be popular and accepted for what it is. It now wears a paint scheme that it actually “served” in during its own history. The new owner requested it to be painted into these colours, and it is going to make a lot of people very happy, he cetainly is 🙂 When it is all back together and completed I will hopefully get some nice shots of it out on the Duxford grass, and they should duly make it into the mags if they are interested. For now it will remain a mystery, but I’m sure someone will get a shot sooner or later, maybe Pen Pusher…maybe not:D

Nope, just the guns. I asked Roobarb that in another thread, and he said that the wingtips were staying in place, and the tailplane struts wouldn’t be fitted as they were fakes (i.e., non-functioning) on the film aircraft – and they kept falling off in flight!

Whist I rather liked the Med theatre markings depicting Werner Schroer’s 109G on G-BWUE, I’m looking forward to seeing it back in it’s filming markings again…

Are they going the whole hog and re-instating the clipped wings, tailplane struts and fake wing guns that the film Buchon’s got….:D

The new colours look fantastic. I am sure that Roobarb will have an image on the pages of Flypast very soon!

I for one think you’ve done a fantastic job and cannot wait to see her in the flesh. Seeing those pictures remind of the first time I saw the film, an old VHS ‘taped off the telly’ job. Mother had carefully edited out most of the adverts apart from a random hamlet one! I remember gleefully telling dad, ‘they’re not messerschmitts dad, they’re ‘ispanos!’
I wonder now, without the wonderful webbington web how I discovered this those years ago! Surely not reading a book!

Good luck sourcing the parts for number two Roobarb, I’m sure she’ll be a sight to behold once complete, whatever the colour!!!

I think we are all agreed that she looks sensational!!!

Is her stablemate nearing a flight test yet roobarb. i also see both have been booked for shoreham this year.

Not for a while. When she was “Americanizzzzed” they threw a lot of the correct Buchon systems away. You can’t just nip down to halfords for these original bits and they are proving “challenging” to source as some other forum members are aware. Anyone with Buchon or Bf109 Hydraulic components lurking in their attic or propping their study door open could do worse than to get in touch with ARC. Unlike the Spitfire rebuilding “industry” there is no similar rebuilding network for ‘109 family members. And yes we have tried the 76 year old Texan guy (Connie) with the hangar full. We’d love to fit a four blade prop as well to our one but we don’t have one. I don’t suppose any forumites have one on their wall…:D

Restoration to static. I think the wing spars are a bit too far gone to make it airworthy. Sure there’s a thread or two about it around here…

On a slightly less silly note;

It is a shame that so few of the CASA 2.111s survived but sadly in those days what was in effect a twin engined WW2 bomber just wasn’t a viable proposition for those interested in operating warbirds.

Anybody know what’s happening/what the grand plan is with the CASA at Duxford?

Hi Septic,

Of course! Because it would have been a four bladed prop as well. I always thought they looked better with the four blade prop.

All the best,

Steve

Unfortunately not, ARCo do have the correct spinners in store, but unfortunately no original Prop.

Septic.

Hi Folks,

Does this mean that the aircraft now has the correct shaped spinner?

All the best,

Steve
