Hi All,
anyone able to I/D this a/c ?
it appears to me to have underwing stripes like a typhoon, and cannon in the wings, or is it just my imagination ?
Sorry about the poor quality, but best I can get at the moment;)
Cheers
Jerry

Harvard? Short nose, squared-off wingtips.
(Although it looked like it had fixed gear, so if that’s the case, Yale)

It looks to me a bit like one of those Harvards that they dressed up to look like Typhoons/P-47s for the movie Bridge Too Far. But then I am currently on my fourth Bitburger…….. So was the photographer I think.

Wingshape screams Texan/Harvard – at a guess, could be one of the Typhoon-ised T6’s used in ‘A Bridge Too Far’

Hi
thanks for the ideas, It is definitely a 1940’s photo, not a film prop, unless it was in ww2.
cheers

Yep ! I’d go with Harvard or Yale….I have seen pics of captured ‘Texans’ in Luftwaffe hands.
Something slightly odd with the elevators….but maybe that is just the angle of a fuzzy shot.

I’m not convinced about Harvard, the wings seem to be of the wrong planform and the tips look to be the wrong shape, and is it me or does it appear to have twin fins?

Not nearly for definate but could it be a Martlet? Tubby body, short nose and squared tail and wings. Still not quite right though.

Hi
Thanks for re posting the photo, I am getting computer problems today, I think there is a loose nut in front of the screen 😀 …me… :)
My other problem is the a/c although it seems to me like a typhoon, but it has a short nose.
But I don’t know what else has wing cannon (?) like that apart from a Hurricane ? but the wings look odd.
any suggestions on a/c type welcome
cheers

I don’t think it’s a warplane as such and I’m sure there are no cannon (but scratches)
My first and lingering thought is a Ju 34 with underwing codes and crosses all smudged by movement and a poor photo. Short nose ,Radial unequal taper wing and narrow tailplane. Note also how the rear fuselage top appears higher than the nose area. Just visible behind the t/e are cabin windows? Crucially ,Where did it come from?

Hi
Thanks for all the comments,
As to where it’s from, not sure, it is in the background of a badly captioned e bay photo, so I don’t know if it is allied or axis.
If i win, i can scan it better and re post it here, naturally as i am bidding i don’t really want to post the link.
My interest was the stripes, but as you say they could be smudges
cheers

My thought is it’s lighter than a Typhoon, Harvard or Martlet, more along the lines of a communications aircraft from the Miles or Percival stable. The nose looks like a Gipsy Major type cowl to me. I know at least one Messenger was used during the D Day operations by Field Marshal Montgomery with invasion stripes so why not other light transports for communications duties?

Been fooling around with the image’s size, contrast, sharpness etc, but it doesn’t really have any new information to go on. Looks like the tail has a twin rudder – I’d go for a Miles Messenger…

Junkers

I’m not convinced it’s a Messenger actually, the wings are too tapered. The Messenger has pretty much rectangular wings.
How about a Miles Master?
Jerry, what’s in the foreground of the photo?

Hi
yeah hopefully a win,it would be nice to know what it is, I haven’t a clue which why i posted here.
It’s still min bid, but you never know, the last item i went for went up about 30 euros, in about just over a minute at the end,and thus ended out of my hobby budget limit.
cheers

I was thinking Messenger… The wings definitely look too rounded, the leading edge taper too slight, and the nose too narrow for a Harvard type. And I too am unconvinced by the cannons argument, and reckon it could have twin fins.
Hope you get the bid, brewerjerry, and can prove us all wrong when you get the useable quality verison!
