Bassingbourn Tower Museum

Just promoting the fact that the Bassingbourn Tower Museum opens up for the new visiting season from Sunday March 14th.

Details available from the Tower Museum’s website below

http://www.towermuseumbassingbourn.co.uk/index.html

The Tower has had a facelift over the winter closed season and there’s new exhibits and fresh displays.

Support the Tower and pay the Museum a visit.

Alternatively, if you can’t get there to visit, why not support the museum and stay in touch with what’s going on there, by becoming a Friend of the Tower, or another Membership type. Again, details on the Tower’s website.

I might pay them another visit this year as it has been a while since I was there.

The Canberra is outside so you can see it when you walk around, as for the cockpit being opened………… who knows unless you ask via email first.

That’s great news Shabby. Nice to see the website finally updated!;) I check it regularly and am usually disappointed that it hasn’t changed!:D

Glad to hear the museum’s had a bit of TLC, wish I lived closer as I would love to help out.:o

Bassingbourn has always been and always will be my mecca! (was saddened to see some buildings have been built in front of the tower though:()

Bassingbourn Canberra

If you ask nicely enough, then you may get your wish! 😉

Seriously though, the Board of Directors for the Museum may be offering chances to ‘open up’ the cockpit on the old Jet, during the coming open season. The museum isn’t all about the Control Tower, or wartime USAAF, we recognise there’s just as much interest in the post war RAF jets etc.

As suggested, I would email the Museum’s email address and put in your request. towermuseum.121@btinternet.com

If the interest is good enough we may open it up fairly regularly. Visitors have to be escorted to the Jet as it’s an active Army Base, but that’s not a problem if people want to see it (inside and out). The keys to the cockpit are available…

Yep, the ATC have built a large brick building on the old post war hardstand area, but from the first floor windows of the old Tower, the view is as good as ever! 🙂

Always very grateful for help and volunteers, but to be honest just thankful we have supporters who care about the Airfield and it’s history.

Only 2 weeks now and we open for the new season…so much to finish off…groan! 😉 It’ll be worth it come 14th March…
