Dumped Jaguar?

What get’s me is why are they using aircraft that are no longer being used by the RAF? Surely a defunct hawk or Tornado would be more suitable..

Its been there for the last few months, sat in the same area as the Domine. Rumour has it that its due to be put on display somewhere at Cranwell, but nothing appears to have happened regarding that story recently. Given that Cranwell have a number of ‘active’ Jaguars its probably still being used as a spares source.
IF it finally is declared surplus the best hope is it appears amongst the PUBLIC disposals from the DSA….

I saw a comment on FC’s site regarding Jaguar XX145 – allegedly on Cranwell’s dump now?

If this is true, can’t it be saved? Seems like a terrible waste of an interesting aircraft when something less valuable could be used? Can’t NAM rescue it?

If and when it ever comes up for disposal perhaps you could offer to buy it for NAM – nice philanthropic gesture and all that!! 😉

In an ideal world yes, we would be training our Engineer Officers to generate Typhoons during our practical training phase! The Jag is a twin engined strike aircraft so it does the job required quite well. When I first arrived at Cranwell we used Hunters as well as Jags (all the hunters found good homes I believe after retirement and some were flown out) and, for the purposes of the training done at DCAE Cranwell, the Jag is fine. At Cosford (where all aeronautical engineering for RAF ground tradesmen/women is carried out) a larger variety of airframes are used, including rotary winged aircraft and Tornados but, at the moment, the Jags are OK for what the training requires for Cranwell. That said, Hawks would also do the job very well I suppose. It will be very interesting to see what the Metrix Consortium comes up with if the £13 billion contract to deliver all UK military technical training at a single site (MOD St Athan) actually gets approved this year (or maybe not). Real airframes will have to be used as synthetic training and virtual walkrounds (good though they can be) doesn’t replicate noise, grease, cold, wet, and stubborn aircraft!

Ive read on UKAR that the Raspberry Ripple Jag is being rebuilt as they have 2 at Cranwell 1’s already being rebuilt while the others outside waiting its turn.

People at brunty have been trying to find out if there’s a chance of it going there, there is still interest in getting a more viable jag airframe to brunty and obviously the possibility of taxiing

Oh dear – what were they thinking of when they made that video?! Might have been funny for about thirty seconds but that was more like fifteen minutes… and not many views of the Jaguars either!

Oh well, if the guy on UKAR is correct (but of course he may well not be), perhaps the Jaguar isn’t “dumped” at all but merely awaiting attention? Just hope it doesn’t become abandoned like so many aircraft do!

They were mimicking Top Gun itself… all the music was from the movie, and many of the scenes were parodies of it, with even very similar dialogue… very disturbing though, I must admit!

Its now at DSFC Welbeck – unloaded today.

what a real pity….I flew several times in her in 1991 on ETPS, including at least once with a great guy who died in a Hawk later.

I hope she can be saved…..otherwise a piece of her would be nice.
