WW1 RFC finds at Stoneleigh and help please!

Picked these up at Stoneleigh today – certain the Inclinometer is Sopwith Camel/Avro 504 &c type, but the ring and bead sight came with it…anyone confirm its origin?

Many thanks

I would have thought the gunsight was post ww2 as I thought Knots was a psot war thing?
I’ve got the same sight so would also like some confirmation…

I thought that, but 200 knots could be a closing speed, taking into account the speed of another aircraft and your own?

I think the give away is that its marked 200 and 100 knt rings!!! rather fast for WW1 A/C!

The RFC/RAF afaik used mph up until late ww2 and then started a gradual changeover to kts.
But I was asking about the RNAS during ww1,I just wondered if they used kts…being part of the RN

Aviation archaeology?

I didn’t know that Stoneleigh was used for flying, certainly not with Camels, 504s and the like. Were they on the surface or did you have to use a metal detector to locate them!

SE5A – 138mph
Fokker D V11- 125mph

So downhill …a little faster.I assume the rings are for estimating for deflection shooting so for an a/c going more than 100,you would need a faster ring to estimate.
A/C performance from the net,so bound to be accurate LOL:D

Saved yourself a lot of money! £10 each to get in – managed to come home with two WW1 60 pounder shells, a bad back, a new shirt, a transport clip for my 18 pounder shell and a virus!

I went to Stoneleigh yesterday, I always go in the hope of Aviation stuff, but on the whole I found it a bit thin on the ground for all concerned?

Good luck with ID!

all depended upon what you were after…..saw lots of aviation stuff

helmets, bombs, nice luft logbook

thin in terms of number of stalls, some of the old faithfuls were not there this year and a whole shed was missing prob about 1/3 of the stalls.
