As you get to the end of the article we learn that he wasn’t actually in THE Great Escape. As near as I can make out from the confusingly written article he assisted with some escapes and was at Stalag Luft 11 at one point.

Takes nothing away from the guy though. I hope he enjoys his classical music for many years to come.

As Moggy C said the newspaper has got part of the story a bit confused but it takes nothing away from Reg and his amazing story. I anm sure others could tell similar stories but for their own reasons remain silent.
It is a shame that the more feckless elements of our younger generation have no appeciation of what others went through to save our country from invasion no more than a life time ago.

Typical newspaper exageration, They call him a fighter pilot and show a picture of him wearing an Engineer brevet.
All the same these guys deserve great respect, whatever they did.
