Description England. C. 1943-12. Portrait of an RAAF fighter pilot who fought a Messerschmitt Bf109 German aircraft unaware that more than half the rudder of his Spitfire aircraft had been shot away. Damaged as it was the rudder functioned perfectly during a running fight of fifty miles.
