Hi all,
Can anyone tell me when the famous Fighter Association tie first came into existence.
I am aware that they are issued by Gieves and Hawkes in Saville Row.
Many thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to offer.
Cheers
Gerry

From After The Battle “The Battle of Britain Then and Now ” the list of pilots was compiled in the late sixties. The designer of the tie was Mr T Herbert-Jones ARPS,FRSA of Gieves Limited of Bond Street,London. He was the sole distributor of the tie. A special modified book marker tie was presented to the Imperial War Museum in October 1969.

I’ve got a Battle of Britain tie in my collection. Due to it’s exclusiveness, I’ve often wondered who it might have belonged to.

I’m also the proud owner of a Battle of Britain tie, given to me by Sgt Len Bowman, who flew as a Defiant air gunner with 141 Sqdn, survived the Battle and went on to fly in Liberators. His father was Geoffrey Hilton “Beery” Bowman who, as a Major in the RFC in WW1, scored 32 victories, the majority while flying SE5’s with 56 Sqdn.

An impressive record of service.
