Hi all – just wondering if anyone can shed any light as to what might have become of a very interesting project I saw a few times up near Hemswell back around 2000. At the time I worked at the ‘now longer there’ Hemswell Bomber Avaition Museum along with a few other die hards (although I have to admit to being not as die-hard as some of the others!! lol . . )
Anyway, a couple of the chaps there were also working on the mentioned Typhoon in a small workshop on the road from Hemswell to Caenby Corner. At the time I saw it, it was looking all but complete (awaiting engine coming back from overhaul). I moved out of the area and never heard of this aircraft again – anyone got information as to where it went and what happened??
Cheers all
Andy

I believe you maybe thinking of a Tempest rather than a Typhoon.
As of June last year was still awaiting its engine back from overhaul.

Ahhh cheers, sounds like just the one I meant – I always get the Typhoon and Tempest mixed up!!! So moved to Wickenby as well, glad to see its still moving forward as a project, although I had expected one to be flying by now . .

Think of this as a static restoration with the very slight possibility of flying!

There is a full page advert in the March 2010 Flypast for Tempest MW404. Special offer, £165,000
I’m guessing this was recovered from India at the same time as MW763?

Nice to see work continue on the old girl. I saw her when she made a brief visit to Gamston, prior to going to Wickenby, she looked good then, but understandably I was asked to keep her location quiet at the time.

Yea I know, it’s so stupid. It means news appears 3 months “late”.

Wickenby Wings and Wheels
Hi all,
You’ll have to try and make it along to our Wings and Wheels 2010 on the 19th/20th June. Hopefully the Tempest will make another appearance!
We have an air show too (subject to weather) and the Airco DH2, Tigermoth, Chipmunk, Thruster microlight pair and CAP232 from Wickenby will be flying. We also hope to welcome the Breighton Collection, two Harvards, Sukhoi 26, Siai Marchetti SF260 and the Spitfire and Lancaster from the BBMF!
Do try and make it 😀
