Not sure if this has been done before, but i thought it would be good to start a thread where members could contribute pics of aircraft used as engine test beds.
To start the ball rolling here is Gannet AS.1 WN345 fitted with the ASDM Mk.8 engine that went into the AEW.3 version. Standard AS.1 WN395 is shown flying alongside as a comparison of the different layouts.

I didn’t think it could be done, but WN345 is even more beautiful than a standard Gannet.
This thread hasn’t come about from the mention of the Folland 43/37 test-bed in the Griffon post has it?!
Partly.. although the piston to turbine era was arguably the most fascinating period in aviation for me. There was a plethora of different types being used, fitted with the very latest of what the aviation engine industry could come up with.

Sadly to conserve the rapidly diminishing ‘Attachment Memory’ in my account I’m unable to post pictures of all of NAM’s ‘engine test-bed’ airframes however I would note the following.
IMHO the most significant is Meteor FR.9 VZ608, which was the V-TOL test-bed for the RB.108 vertical lift engine and you can get a glimpse of her here.
I would also venture to add the following airframes to any list:
Ashton WB491 {Nenes}
Sycamore WT933 {hot & cold weather trials}
Canberra B2 (Mod) WV787 {Sapphire}
Meteor FR.9 (Mod) VZ608 {RB.108}
Plus two possible outsiders (depends on criteria applied) 😀
Luscombe Rattler Strike G-BKPG {???}
Zurowski ZP.1 BAPC 183 {???}
Full airframe list here!
Footnote to Mods how do I proceed when the attachment quota is reached?

Alos helps to resize your pictures first as well. Your average digital camera snap or scan can be around 2MG in size. Open it in something like Paint resize the picture to a decent size (I typically use between 30-50%) and save a copy – on average takes about 1.5MG out the file size.

I have the same problem – so interested in the reply from Mods!
I’m having to delete previously posted attachments to free up space for further posts and attachments. I do this on the premise that there appears to be rapid feedback on this forum, so the info. has already been disseminated to the most interested parties and feedback received within at least the first 48 hours.
Others on the forum have suggested loading images etc to Photobucket, but I find that method too slow and user unfriendly!
