Wondering if anyone can identify the aircraft involved in the following wartime crashes, some of which were witnessed by my late father as a schoolboy;
P51 Mustang crashed in a field near the village of Newton which is just north of Duxford. Exploded on impact, traces still to be found.
P47 Thunderbolt crashed in a field between the villages of Whittlesford and Lt Shelford, beside what is now the M11. Exploded on impact, traces still to be found
Stirling / Halifax near the villages of Newton and Harston. Wreckage seen by my father still burning as he came out of school.
B17 Flying Fortress crash landed near Newton.
Supermarine Spitfire crashed and embedded itself near the village of Newton. Pilot bailed out after being shot down by friendly AA fire.
Any info would be very welcome.
Rob.
