Vulcan XH558 wings

Hi,

I have been looking at pictures of XH558 and noticed on the wings, towards the front edges, 2 panels which look a slightly darker colour and the lighter camouflage seems to be blurred on the edges within these areas.

What are these areas?

So they are. Hadn’t noticed that. Thanks.

Incidently, there are some good videos on YouTube showing the air display at Lake Windermere and XH558’s final spiral up and away as it completed its display. Love to have seen that.

You’ll notice in your pic there that the control surfaces are likewise mismatched, and the nose radome was repainted too.

When the aircraft was restored, some corrosion was discovered in that area of the structure -the only way of removing it was by cutting the skin panels in that area for work to be carried out. When finished, that part of the plane was repainted.
