Has anyone got any early copies of Wrecks and Relics they could delve into for me?
I’m researching the period 1960 to 1993 and any references to Hornet Moth G-ADMT. During this time it languished at various locations – starting at Stapleford when withdrawn from use, then through Biggin Hill (Air Couriers/Transglobe Airways), the old Gatwick railway station, Redhill (private residential address), New Milton (likewise), Strathallan (the collection – ’75 to the sale in ’81) and Scone (Scottish Avn Trust). Throughout this time, I believe the aircraft was mostly dismantled.
In any case, if anyone has any info of whatever variety about this aircraft, I’d be very glad to hear from them.
Thanks,
Dave

Robert, excellent. I have copies of the Strathallan official guide, the Christies sale catalogue and some newspaper articles; but your photo is just the sort of thing I’m after. If you can find any more I’d be most grateful. Thanks a lot. Cheers, Dave

To my deep regret my negatives from that era have not yet been indexed. (That’s what happens when you get married) I had a quick look today and found the attached photo. It may be the only one I have as it was in the “new” display building and most of my photos were taken of the flying aircraft. I was present at the Strathallan sale but was not involved with the Supporter Society or the Scottish Aviation Trust as they were too far from where I lived.

No pictures in W&R.
May be worth contacting Robert Whitton as he has been very much involved in historic aircraft in Scotland

TBird – thanks. Any photos to go with the text in W&R? If so, a scan would be very welcome. She was registered to Sir W Roberts at Strathallan in Oct 75, so you’re probably right about the edition numbers.
I’ve actually got quite a lot of the aircraft’s history – and have already plundered GINFO (thanks wieesso). For example, I have a copy of a page of Pat Fillingham’s logbook from 1939, complete with a photo showing 3/8″ ice on the flying wires and struts at 9,300′, with a comment “a/c very heavy and would not climb on full throttle”! Hardly surprising…
The aircraft also won the Folkestone Trophy Air Race in 1938, at a speed in excess of 123 mph in the hands of H Buckingham (anyone got any info on this gentleman?).
Here she is today…
