Farmborough fire dump Pics please :)

Hi does anyone have any pics, of Farmboroughs fire dump over the years,
with all the evaluation they have done over the years ,i wonder what “odd” non British types have ended up on the dump, from WW2 onward, perticuarily looking for any pics of Mig 19, Mig21 , and especailly the Sukhoi Su-7 that was on there dump back in the day .. I would love to see a pic of these aircraft complete before they were broken up, any ex farmborough fire crew, or staff on this site, taken any pics, or even before they were on the fire dump ???

would very very much appreciate any leads or photo’s
😀

Thanks Dave ,

thats the stuff I am trying to find, rumours are that the egyptian stuff was there for quite some time, I would love to know the history of these aircraft, and same goes for the Mig 19 at martin bakers, another gutted cockpit, in very bad shape,
but any pics or history about these 3 aircraft the Egyptian Su-7 Mig21 , Mig 19(mig 19 might be ex PAF ) . would be much appreciated, is there anyone who uses this site who ever seen them or worked on them in years past ??

and were these aircraft ever complete aircraft in this country, or were they allready scrapped of sorts before they got here in the uk??

Re the Soviet stuff – it appeared on the dump in the early 90s IIRC, having been held in various Departments for a long time (at least since Suez in one circumstance – I once spoke to someone who saw Soviet systems there in the early 60s) and was ‘cleared out’ when DERA/DRA/RAE were moving out.

I think I posted shots of the Appollo and the Comets here in years past.

The article was in 1956 or early 57. I have it somewhere and will post it when I find it. Attached is my log for 1956 which includes the aircraft mentioned in the article. i.e. the Buckmaster (being used for chain-saw testing!!!), Monty’s Fiesler Storch and the Apollo.
I posted my photos of the dump taken at the 1957 display a couple of years or so ago and you should be able to find them in “search”.
No Soviet types then though!!!

I think the Air Pictorial article must have been pre 1968 partly because I started taking Air Pictorial in 68 and have no memory of the article and also because 1968 was my first Farnborough visit and by then the dump area around the water tanks appeared to have little except the Comet fuselages, Avro Ashton and what seemed to be endless dismantled Percival Provosts.
I had wanted to see the early Comet fuselages for a long time and only had vague directions to the dump area. After walking around for ages I finally stumbled upon them – just a shame I didn’t have a camera.

I am particularly looking for soviet planes on the dump,

Not what you are after I know ,but your request reminds me that way back in the 60s or possibly the early 70s , Air Pictorial had an article about dumped and abandoned airframes at Farnborough.

There were some very rare one-off types that presumably eventually made their way to the smelters.

I no longer have the giant stack of Air-Pics ….but maybe someone else can find the article and perhaps make us feel all nostalgic by quoting from it.

Could it be 1956, and an article by Charles W Cain?

I kept the cutting for years and have probably still got it…but where to look.

The Storch, Blackburn YA-7(?) and several others duly appeared in Coley’s scrap yard near Heathrow.

Merkle,

Hope for your sake mate the deal is done, as you have given plenty of information now for someone else who wants said pit to come in and snatch it from you…..

Jon

Jon, it wont happen, I have been in contact for quite some time, and have been told , quite strongly, the cockpit’s got my name on it, and it aint going anywhere, apart from “my way” , I value trust, in people and trust there word.

the group/man involved are very gentlemanly, so I have no qaulms about trusting them . problem i have is to find all the parts, and pics etc , as i thought i would get the ball rolling ,as i know just how hard it will be to do, the sooner i get on with it , the better . 🙂

Thanks Flyst for looking 🙂

I am perticuarily looking for soviet planes on the dump, as i am sure i will be owning one in the very near future, just a wrecked cockpit, but to find pics of it on the fire dump or even better as a complete aircraft woud be such a bonus, as its history is so … well….. how can i put this, with lots of Voids … very little information .of its service history . , apart from it is ex egyptian, and this is stated in the “wrecks a Relics ” book anyway 🙂

Had a good look through my Photo’s and could only come up with these. No know date. The Whirlwind ended up on the Fire Dump and was burned. Not sure about the Comet though. A date for these would be nice.
