Humphrey Wynn

Humphrey Wynn, the author of ‘RAF Nuclear Deterrent Forces’ died earlier this week at the age of 90.

From 1940-46 he served in the RAF as a pilot with the Middle East Air Force and RAF Transport Command; then with the RAFVR 1948-80 – initially on flying duties and finally in the Public Relations Branch (RAF).

In 1956 he joined the aviation magazine ‘Flight’ and in 1967 became assistant editor and defence correspondent of its successor ‘Flight International’.

From 1971-1984 he was on the staff of the Air Historical Branch (RAF) where he wrote ‘The Post War Bomber Role’ and then researched and wrote ‘RAF Nuclear Deterrent Forces’ which was first published as a classified in-house history in 1991.

His other books include ‘World Airline Insignia’, ‘Fighter Pilot’ (edited), ‘Prelude to Overlord’ (co-author), ‘Darkness Shall Cover Me’, and ‘Desert Eagles’.
