Hei,
For many years I have been trying to find parts for a pneumatic brake system made by Dunlop in the thirties. Without success so now I want to try if I can find drawings to make these parts myself. It is for static only. I know that Dunlop as we know today only use the name Dunlop and has not much to do with the company Dunlop that made the brake installation. Does anyone know if the archive/drawings of the ‘old” Dunlop has survived and if, were it is located?
Best regards,
Mathieu.

I’m interested to know what pops up from that archive Mathieu! Is it for you-know-what :D?

The archive is definitely still held by Meggitt at the Holbrook site.
I was there this week and asked about it. I was told they have everything, right back to part number ‘AH 1’.
As an aside there was a pair of Vulcan brake units in for overhaul.
That is good news!! Thanks for asking:)
Best regards,
Mathieu.

A couple of years ago I did some research for a client regarding Dunlop Braking Systems and in particular brake bags. Sadly I struggled to gather information in the UK and ended up unsuccessfully chasing companies in the USA and the Asia Pacific region. 🙁

Thanks for correcting me on the address AgCat – Lockhurst Lane becomes Holbrook Lane about 100 yds from (what used to be) Dunlop’s main gate:confused:

Or you could write direct to Meggitt, Lockhurst Lane, Coventry – where some of the original Dunlop factory/offices remain in use.
When I was an apprentice there in the 1960’s a neighbour was in charge of the Aviation D.O. (No. 2 factory). I spent lunchtimes looking through the master book list of drawing numbers that started IIRC in the mid thirties.
Nearby there was a small, detached brick building that contained microfilm copies of all the drawings.

I know nothing of their archives but according to Companies House, Dunlop Aerospace is now owned by Meggitt and is located at
ATLANTIC HOUSE, AVIATION PARK, WEST, BOURNEMOUTH INTERNATIONAL, AIRPORT, CHRISTCHURCH, DORSET, BH23 6EW
That would be their registered office.
Don’t know if this helps.
