We’re working on trying to arrange a trip to England for the Pitcairn Autogiro

(H.G. Frautschy photo)
And in fact have found sponsorship to cover most of the cost, but need a bit more to finish the deal, so if anybody has any contacts over there that might help please let me know. We’d love to bring it to Old Warden and have had interest from a couple of other venues for the June/July 2010 period.
Also, since it won’t quite fit in a 20 foot container we’ll need a 40 footer, which will leave room for another aircraft, and the leading contender right now is a rare civil type which hasn’t been seen in the UK since the 1930s-

It would be lovely to see her flying over in the UK.
Can we not between us pledge a small amount of money to make this happen?

We’re still trying to come up with the last few thousand dollars to make it happen, e-mails are flying about.
It did make the cover of the new Sport Aviation magazine, good publicity-

Any more news on the Pitcairn coming to the UK Baldeagle ?
Much as we can’t offer any financial assistance we have a very thriving autogyro business at our local field in Lincolnshire, the ex RAF Wickenby.
During the summer we have a Wings n Wheels event (19th / 20th June), with an especially interesting line up planned for this year, including WW1 and WW2 types, civil and ex military. The Pitcairn dropping in would serve to make this one an extra special event !

We don’t have confirmation on the second aircraft yet, but have several good back-up candidates as well. However the ‘giro is the priority, if we can’t get it covered then a second aircraft will be a moot point. Without getting too much here into the financial considerations a few thousand dollars more should put us over the top. We’re only looking for expenses to be covered, not anyone’s time, and no interest in profit. A company that would sponsor in exchange for the usual logo on the aircraft might be ideal, but we’re open to any ideas.

This would be a wonderful thing to see at OW, just a shame the Avro Rota isn’t there anymore to go alongside it!
I did (briefly, some years ago now) discuss with the OW management the idea of getting the Rota airworthy, but they rejected it – not unreasonably, as there are serious performance compromises with the type.
Notably the Spanish built a replica C.30 and flew it, but have since grounded it to the Air Force Museum after an accident, IIRC.
While talking to Andrew about these machines alongside the Pitcairn at this year’s Oshkosh show, a certain Mr Weeks stopped by for a walk-round and talk about the type by the Pitcairn team. We were unabashed in encouraging him to get his Rota into action, which he did say was something he’d like to do – but we must remember he’s got a long list of things he’d like to do.
Roughly how much sponsorship is still required??
Not for me to say, that’s Andrew’s call. Drop him a PM if there’s any way you can help though!

Here’s a chance for forumites to actually make a difference…
I’ve corresponded with Andrew on this project, and tried to assist. What’s needed isn’t huge in the scheme of things. Any bright ideas involving transatlantic assistance, sponsorship or cash would potentially tip this from ‘would have been nice’ into actually happening.
Assistance within the UK would also (I believe) be appreciated, but much has already been offered and that end of things isn’t the critical bit to making this happen.
Go on, make a difference. There’s undoubtedly the resources available within the forum membership…
