The deal had been done for us to collect almost what we wanted from 190, all PFCU’s, u/c legs, etc. The scrap men were just waiting for our call to save the bits we wanted – the avionic boxes were set aside (if fact I think they might have gone with the cockpit to Manston). As I understand it, the reason so much was scrapped was down to miscommunication….. damn.

Thanks for posting them Pagen,
Very interesting in a sort of way, to see whats inside the skin, without using access panels that is. Interesting they scrapped it with the engines, although from what i have heard they were seized solid.
Still a shame, there was a good load of stuff that could have been retrieved for XL231.
We did ask……

I have a couple of mementos from it as well, but not as impressive as the ones you were given :p

I have pictures of the scrapping sequence of ‘190, some of which are elsewhere on the forum.
It is odd that the pilots seats seem to be missing in the pic, as I’m sure they were there when the cockpit was removed for sale:confused:
All the instruments were deliberately smashed by the fiire section.
I had a few odd and sods from it, including a huge wing section that I had to strap onto the roof of my Rover and drive out of the station main gate with!

Thanks for that,
I didnt realise they had taken the seats! They really went to town on spares recovery on her. When XL231 flew into elvington some Air Marshal somewhere had told them to remove the First Pilots control column as he used to fly Victors and wanted it…..they were advised to do otherwise by Andre!

A few more Ollie, looks like the treasure hunters beat us to it, think they were a team from Marham.

Nav station fairly intacto

Sorry, i meant St Mawgan!
By: Dr Strangelove - 30th November 2009 at 19:22
Afraid not Ollie, I only have pics of her at St Mawgan.
The Dayglow panels warned of the fuel tanks that had yet to be de-gassed.

Very interesting,
Do you have any more photos of 190 at St Athan? We recovered a significant amount of her avionics, albeit after she had been scrapped.
What does the dayglo sticker on the side of her say?
Cheers
Ollie

A few pics of XL190 at St Mawgan, she sat there for quite a while before being moved over towards the HAS site when ultimately the scrapman had his wicked way with her.
A few bits were saved though, I believe the nose section was with a few other bits & bobs.

Just to be pedantic, its Lusty Lindy not Lusty Linda as often mis-published!
Cheers
