Help With Fuses

Hello, I am currently attempting to restore some power to my Jaguar cockpit, most things have been sorted out but I am missing some crucial fuses in the DC distribution box. I was wondering if anyone can help with part numbers, NSN’s, place I can buy some, photo of one or maybe someone even as a few in a box somewhere.

What I require are a couple of 80 amp fuses with a distance between hole centres of approximately 40mm and a couple of 50 amp fuses with a distance between hole centres of approximately 33mm, obviously I could modify something of similar sizes.

Attached are a photo of where the fuses go and a photo of a 5 amp fuse that is of a similar design.

Any help appreciated.
Paul

Hi Paul. I seem to remember that I used that type of fuse on the Cushioncraft CC7 hovercraft way back in the 70’s. They were fitted in conjunction with Ward Brooke terminal blocks, or some special fuse blocks, again made by WB. Ward Brooke became Ultra, became Dowty (order may be wrong – long ago!)

If it is any further help, that CC7 I last saw in one of the hangars at the Science Museum out-station at Wroughton, Swindon. Cushioncraft was the hovercraft division of Britten-Norman, makers of the Islander aircraft.

The suggestion by Keithnewsome about RS COmponents is a line that I was also thinking along. Another might be Farnell’s (if they are still there). Belling-Lee?????

If it ever stops raining I will try the archive in the garden shed and see if I can find another information.

Good luck!

I meant ask for the Pt No / specs.

Blagging some fuses would not be as easy ( to think, a year or two ago I had access to loads ! )

Could try Everett or Jet Art if you get stuck.

Just thinking aloud, if your’e making a static electrically live cockpit could you use modern aftermarket fuse boxes and links etc.

You’ll find you’ll have to get hold of SERCO as they are responsable for all the ground trainining aids at cosford under contract to the MOD as are the airframes at cranwell, the RAF personnel there generally have no control over spares etc

A polite letter to 1 S of TT Cosford may get a suitable response – they do still teach on them.

Now, if it were an airframe question………………..:)

Hello, I think Keith is on the money with the 80amp one. I cannot provide any other details as I don’t actually have any fuses there, all I can say is they go in fuse positions 15P, 17P, 18P, 30A and 67A in DC Distribution box 31. All other fuses in the cockpit are made by English Electric.

Cheers Paul

This type of fuse is common to Jag, harrier and Vixen Faw2. If you can give me a section reference, or part number. I can run it through the Nato stock program and give you NSN, part number, sec ref, current manufacturers and current suppliers, with address. Be warned though they will be an arm and a leg, as it will be released stock.

Photo from RS Components catalogue …. book 1 page 312 ….. 80amp semiconductor protection fuse to BS88 actual fixing hole centres are 41.8mm ?
This particular item is from the Bussmann range, other makes are available !
Fast acting, 240v AC, Max DC voltage 140v.
There is a 50 amp version but with the same dimensions, can’t find one with 33mm centres ? £6 . 37 each + VAT

Bumping this up again, I imagine that Lightnings, Hunters, Harriers, Buccs etc would all have similar fuses so maybe someone with connections to one of these can help.

Cheers

Don’t forget Paul, that this is from the French part of the aircraft so I wouldn’t be surprised if the NSN had a 14 in the nation code. A pity that I didn’t keep the electrical part of the Vol 3A:(
