Can anyone recommend a good book that ID’s biplane era
(WW1) aircraft such as the Camel, Nieuport etc. Basically
a reference book with a wide range of types with 3-views
so you can distinguish between types etc.
I have many many books of the kind on airliners and WW2
aircraft but sometimes struggle to readily ID a given type
of biplane.

If it’s the WWI era, try this trio by Kenneth Munson:
Bombers 1914-1919
Fighters 1914-1919
Aircraft of World War I
All are profusely illustrated — the first two in color profiles and the last in photographs. All go well beyond the usual suspects. Used copies of all three can be readily found in Amazon, EBay, and ABE Books. I believe one or both of the first two have been reissued in recent years.

Are you after a book on biplanes, or a book on W.W.I aircraft – they’re different sets. Or do you want a book on pre-W.W.II aircraft?

Simon, I can’t recommend “Aces High” by Alan Clark (1973) highly enough. A beautifully written, researched and illustrated book, it’s an ideal reference for your needs.
‘Amazon’ have it listed as quite readily available, both new and pre-loved.
Cheers, Matt
